Bungoma gears up for Madaraka Day celebrations with emphasis on food security
The works at the stadium are being carried out on a 24-hour basis as the county prepares to host the event under the theme of Food Security.
Preparations are in top gear at Masinde Muliro stadium in Bungoma County which is hosting this year's Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.
Interior Permanent Secretary Raymond Omollo said this on Thursday after leading an inspection tour of the different venues that will support the activities that will take place during the day.

"We started at Matulo airstrip and then we moved to the stadium and finally the county commissioner's residence that will host the garden party after the celebrations. We are satisfied with the preparations that have gone into making sure that all those facilities are ready," said the PS adding that the pending work will be completed in time.

"We have made all the necessary security arrangements and we continue to plan and replan as we assess the progress and where gaps could be," he said, adding that the military will begin their preparations for the event on Monday next week.
Both KURA and KERRA are redoing several feeder routes, and KPLC has been sent to replace any potential electricity gaps. Streetlights were installed along the Kanduyi -Musikoma dual carriageway ahead of the event.

The Ministry of Agriculture and county governments will showcase what the country has achieved in food security and agriculture in general.
A week of events amongst them an exhibition under the same theme will run at Kibabii University in the run-up to the event.
"We are calling on all Kenyans to participate in that programme that will culminate in the Madaraka Day celebrations. On the 1st of June, we are also inviting everybody starting with the residents of Bungoma County and the rest of the county to join the governor and His Excellency the President as they take us through the celebrations," he added.
On his part, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka appealed to the youth to avail themselves at the stadium to enable a speedy conclusion on the ongoing works.
He also took the opportunity to call on Mt Elgon residents to be extra cautious after the area was classified among the spots likely to experience mudslides during the ongoing rains.
